FAQ

What does this test actually do?

It is a quick reality check for your standards. Pick what you want (age, height, income, education, build and more) and we work out how many such people actually live in Europe. You will see whether you are looking for a real person or a statistical unicorn.

Is it like the “delusion calculator”?

Yes. It is a European take on the popular American calculator often called the female or male delusion calculator. Instead of the US census it uses Eurostat and other European sources, for the whole EU and for each country. It does not judge anyone; it just shows how rare the ideal you put together is.

How accurate is it?

The numbers are real, the model is simplified. Each trait is evaluated for every country, sex and year of age, so links between traits (taller people earning more on average, say) are not modelled. Treat the result as a good estimate, not an exact count.

What do the stars mean?

How many adults meet your standards. 0 stars: more than half. 1: at least one in five. 2: roughly one in 5 to 20. 3: one in 20 to 100. 4: fewer than 1 in 100. 5: fewer than 1 in 1,000, which is unicorn hunting.

Do you store my answers?

No. The calculation runs on the server and nothing is stored. Only your own browser remembers your last choices, and a result link contains nothing but the chosen criteria. No cookies, no tracking.

How often is the data updated?

Once a month the latest Eurostat tables are downloaded automatically. The date of the last update is in the footer.

Where the numbers come from

Each requirement is evaluated for one country, sex and single year of age, and the results are added up. Within one year of age the traits are treated as independent, except education, living with a partner, single parenthood and living with parents, which come from one joint census table. Real correlations (between height and income, or eye and hair colour) are not modelled, so the result is a good estimate rather than an exact count. The data stay on the server; the page only receives finished results.
